Often copied, but never equaled, the mechanism made of case hardened steel is designed to crack the peppercorns before the actual grinding process. A grapevine motif is hand-embossed around the middle of each shaker by skilled artisans, adding to the old-fashioned quality. Each features a squared riveted handle and a plastic plug underneath; the only difference between the two is the number of holes in the domed top.
