Review Riedel Ouverture Red Wine Glasses, Set of 4 / Riedel 408 /00:

Introduced in 1989, Riedel's Ouverture collection is an uncomplicated beginner series for customers who appreciate good, reasonably priced wine. You needn't have an encyclopedic knowledge of varietals or wine-growing regions to appreciate this fine stemware. Perfect for everyday use, the four red-wine glasses in this set are part of the moderately priced Ouverture series offered by world-renowned Austrian wineglass maker Riedel Crystal (founded in 1756). Being lead-free, they're not crystal like Riedel's premium glasses but are machine blown of potash glass and are dishwasher-safe. Their thin rims are cut and polished to Riedel's exacting standards, so wine flows easily onto the tongue. Each glass holds 12-3/8 ounces and stands 7-3/8 inches high. Though glasses shaped and sized for different types of wine seem commonplace today, when Riedel introduced this idea in 1961, it was revolutionary. Since then Riedel has continued fine-tuning glasses to bring out the best characteristics in wines and spirits. Varying bowls' shapes and sizes affects the position of the head when sipping and where wine first contacts the tongue's various taste zones. -Fred Brack.

, 21-1/8 oz. Riedel Model # 414/0 Founded in 1756, Austria’s Riedel Crystal is the world’s premier manufacturer of wine glasses and has always catered to the fine wine connoisseur. However, these wine tumblers are part of the company’s first attempt at producing a lower priced wine glass for casual entertaining. Like Riedel’s prestigious Vinum series of glasses, these tumblers are specifically designed for a particular grape varietal and still maintain their ability to enhance the flavors and aromas of the wines they were intended for. The only difference is that the tumblers are missing their stems, making them slightly less delicate to handle, more modern in appearance, and easier to fit in smaller cabinets, mini bars, picnic baskets, and the dishwasher. The O series of glasses are made of machine-made of non-leaded glass. The shape of the two glasses in this set is specifically recommended for young, full-bodied red wines with high tannin and extract, such as Cabernet or Merlot. Each glass holds 21-1/8 ounces of wine, stands 4-7/8 inches tall, and is completely dishwasher-safe. -Cristina Vaamonde.

  • Model: Riedel Vinum Single Malt Whiskey Glasses, Set of 2

Review Riedel Vinum Single Malt Whiskey Glasses, Set of 2 / Riedel 6416/80:

Claus Riedel changed the world of wine with his revolutionary concept of functional stemware. He was the first designer to recognize that the bouquet, taste, balance and finish of wines are affected by the shape of the glass from which they are drunk. Introduced in 1986, Vinum was the first machine-made series of glasses in history to be based exclusively on the characteristics of quality with a reasonable price. These glasses have proved to consumers and restaurateurs that the pleasure of consuming wine starts with the glass. Extensive research for the perfect malt whiskey glass resulted in a glass that has an elongated thistle shape on a truncated stem. The design incorporates a small, slightly outturned lip which directs the spirit onto the tip of the tongue, where sweetness is perceived, and serves to emphasize the elegant creaminess of top quality single malt whisky. Recommended for: Single Malt Whisky, Malt Whisky, Whisky. The Vinum collection is made of over 24% lead crystal. 4 1/2 in. - 7 oz. [+]
Renowned Austrian glassmaker Riedel designs the shape of each glass to most fully enhance the appreciation of the liquid within. Seeking the expertise of master distillers in Scotland, Riedel came up with its definitive single malt whiskey glass: a deep bowl on a short, pedestal stem. With its flared lip and curved profile, one can even imagine the bowl resembling a Scottish thistle. Perfect for any fine whiskey, the set of two glasses makes a superb wedding gift or adds to an existing collection for the serious wine and spirits lover. Each single malt whiskey glass stands 4-1/2 inches tall and holds 7 ounces at full capacity. Comprised of more than 24 percent lead crystal for superb brilliance and clarity, Vinum stems and cocktail glasses are nevertheless affordable because they are machine-made rather than mouth-blown. Riedel introduced the popular Vinum line in 1986 and this particular glass in 1991. While all Vinum glassware is dishwasher-safe, Riedel recommends washing the crystal by hand to prevent detergent residue that can affect wine taste. -Ann Bieri.

Make your Christmas dinner complete with this beautiful, holiday-themed collection. A unique season pattern evokes the joyful holiday spirit. A holiday favorite since its introduction in 1938, Spode's Christmas Tree pattern is their most well known and widely collected holiday pattern. Evoking the holidays with a traditional evergreen, the pattern creates a warm, folksy Christmas feel that families will look forward to year after year and hold dearly in their memories for generations. The trademark tree, seemingly decorated by young hands and ringed with brightly wrapped presents underneath, stands cheerily in the center of every piece. Charming, crafty decorations encircle the tree and Santa himself-bag slung over his shoulder-stands at the top. For collecting fun, Spode adds new accessories to the pattern every year, allowing a cherished holiday tradition to grow with time. Match any piece to other items in the collection for seasonal dining merriment. Pour and serve large-sized glasses of wine or water into these luxurious and enlivening wine glasses for a wonderful holiday treat. The set includes four glasses; each glass is made of clear glass, holds 16 ounces, stands 7 inches high, and has a generous 3-1/4-inch diameter for smelling the wine's bouquet. [+]
The reservoir of each glass is deeper than a standard wine glass, allowing for the extra capacity, and the standard narrow stem is replaced with a shorter stem featuring a globe-shape ball just above the base. Like all items in the pattern, the glass features the calling-card Christmas tree design at center; other decorative elements include mistletoe and 22-karat gold trim at the top, making each sip a memorable delight. Hand washing is recommended to preserve the gold trim, and the glass should not be used in a microwave. Match with all items in the pattern, especially the standard wine goblets. -Jeff Dalto.
